Security officers in Malindi constituency have launched investigations into the distribution of leaflets warning against voting in candidates from a certain community in parts of Ganda ward.
Malindi Deputy County Commissioner Thuo wa Ngugi, who chairs the subcounty security committee, confirmed that the leaflets had been found in Kijiwetanga area and that relevant officers were handling the matter.
Speaking at the Barani Secondary School where IEBC officials were dispatching election materials to polling stations, Ngugi said the source of the leaflets had not been established.
He warned that people bent on causing panic among residents of the peaceful subcounty would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Malindi constituency returning officer Mwanajuma Ali said everything was set for the elections, adding that the constituency had not experienced the switching of voting materials as has been reported elsewhere.
Malindi constituency has 94,605 registered voters spread across 166 polling stations and will be manned by 332 presiding and deputy presiding officers as well as more than 1,000 polling clerks and 352 police officers.
