The Kwale government has started issuing bursaries for continuing students in national schools.

More than 5,150 students in national schools who are under the county's full sponsorship are set to benefit from the programme.

The learners are part of the beneficiaries of the Elimu Ni Sasa bursary and sponsorship initiative.

The programme was established in 2016 to sponsor the education of bright but needy students.

Another 2,500 students in university are fully sponsored and more than 50,000 are enjoying the normal bursary support.

Governor Salim Mvurya said his administration remains dedicated to giving Kwale children better education to improve their lives.

Mvurya said the county shall continue to provide the necessary support for students to accomplish their academic dreams.

"We will ensure students get quality education to pursue their academic endeavours," he said.

The governor said no Kwale child will miss education because of lack of school fees.

He said there will be no difference between the rich and poor students.

Mvurya spoke in Waa/Ngombeni, Matuga, before proceeding to Tiwi, Gombato Bongwe, Kinondo and Kubo South wards where he issued cheques to students.

Mvurya said Kwale has made great strides in improving education standards.

The governor said he is proud that Kwale is appearing on the national grid in education performance and socio-economic development.

"It's a milestone achievement to have transformed the county's education sector and upscale student performance," he said.

He said Kwale students have been posting good results since the inception of the bursary programme.

He was accompanied by Deputy Governor Fatuma Achani.

Mvurya urged parents to support the bursary programme for more children to benefit.

The governor urged students to shun drug abuse and concentrate on their education to build a strong foundation for their future.

He also urged residents to vote for Achani in the August 9 polls.

Mvurya said the county will be in good hands if Achani succeeds him.

"You are safer with Achani. She has demonstrated her abilities and is ready to take up the mantle from me to fast-track development," he said.
