Residents of Mombasa continue to suffer due to shortage of petroleum products.

The majority of fuel stations in the county have reported a shortage of gas, petrol and diesel in the last three days.

Joseph Mutua, who works at a petrol station in Mombasa, told the Star on Wednesday they do not have fuel.

“We are facing a shortage of fuel. We placed an order on Monday but until today we have not received it. We only have fuel that can last four days and if we exhaust it, we won't have anything to sell,” he said.

Fuelling station attendant John Karanja said Mombasa has not been affected so much compared to upcountry but there are stations that do not have fuel.

A statement by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority indicated that North Rift and Western Kenya are the most affected by the fuel shortage.

“EPRA together with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining, oil marketers and other sector stakeholders have resolved issues affecting supply and are working towards restoration of normalcy across the country,” EPRA said.

“We assure the public that there is enough fuel supply in the country and there should be no cause to panic.”
