Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has officially commissioned the Sh134 million tarmacked Mvindeni-Lofta beach road.
The over 2.8km tarmacked road will open up business and tourism activities in Diani.
The road provides easy access to Diani white sandy beaches and connects the area to the Mombasa-Lunga-Lunga highway at Mvindeni within Msambweni subcounty.
Speaking on Thursday during the launch, Mvurya said the road will supplement the Kona Ya Beach road in Ukunda to decongest heavy traffic that builds up during the afternoon and evening hours.
“Transport has been made easy, no more congestion while getting to Diani,” he said.
Mvurya said his administration is committed to opening up completed development projects to benefit residents.
He said the residents have been yearning for development and he will ensure he fulfils his promises before his retirement next year.
The Mvindeni-Lofta road is part of more than 100 development projects the county had vowed to launch early this year to hasten development and create room for massive investment.
Some other projects launched are health facilities, learning institutions, water and sanitation, dams, markets and infrastructure.
A major project opened is the Sh300 million Kwale Teachers Training College in Kinango that had its first enrolment of students in October.
Recently, the Sh120 million Kombani Fresh Produce Wholesale market was launched in Matuga subcounty.
Another Sh1.2 billion Makamini and Sh20 billion Mwache dams are ongoing in Kinango.
The multi-billion water projects will increase water supply, reduce shortage and activate agricultural activities to boost food security.
Mvurya said he is determined to ensure sustainable projects are brought closer to the people.
He said his government will improve road networks and infrastructural development to act as a strong base for socio-economic take-off hence enhancing livelihoods.
Mvurya said the county has embraced rural-urban development to elevate the mode of living to standard levels as plans are underway to improve towns to municipalities.
Diani and Kwale were officially upgraded to municipalities while Kinango, Lunga-Lunga among other towns are yet to be promoted.
Mvurya and his Deputy Governor Fatuma Achani opened Sh4 million modern laboratory and twin staff residential houses within Msambweni.
He said he wants residents to receive cheap and affordable first-class health services.
Mvurya said the health facilities will enhance the examination and diagnosis of diseases at unmatched speed because appropriate equipment is installed and qualified doctors are hired.
He said they will ease the burden of travelling long distances to get healthcare services.
Mvurya issued Sh6.9 million bursary to Dzombo ward students in Lunga-Lunga.
The county boss urged students to take education seriously to change lives.
Mvurya said the county has invested a lot in education to fight poverty and enhance better lives for Kwale people.
Achani urged the residents to support the county for more development projects.
She called on the residents to choose visionary and supportive leaders.
