Matuga MP Kasim Tandaza has warned parents against bailing out their criminal children.

Tandaza's statement follows the surging number of machete-wielding juvenile gangs terrorising locals at Ng'ombeni and Tiwi areas along the Mombasa-Lunga-Lunga highway.

He said to effectively combat crime parents must work in close cooperation with the local security authority to discipline the children once arrested.

The MP said the idea of parents running to police stations to free youths associated with various crime jeopardises the safety and county security.

"If you really wish well for these children, do not bail them out because you are not only risking the public's lives but also yours," he said.

The legislator said liberating crooked children from justice creates room for crime to thrive.

He said more youth are triggered to join criminal gangs and participate in illegal activities because they have parents to protect them.

According to Tandaza, many families are languishing in poverty because parents have lost wealth trying to save indisciplined sons and daughters.

Parents go to the extreme of selling lands, clothes and utensils among other property to raise money to bail out children.

Tandaza said parents should up their parental responsibilities and let the law take course in correcting unscrupulous youngsters.

Kwale is a hotspot for radicalised youth. Msambweni constituency takes lead followed by Matuga.

Police have in the past years trail and gun down suspected terrorists in areas of Ukunda, Kibundani, Denyenye, Ng'ombeni, Kombani, bombo among others.

The lawmaker said there is need to support the government in stemming insecurity and salvaging youth from crime and drugs.

He said parents know their children better than anyone and should take the initiative of reporting them to the authorities for correction once they lose track.

The lawmaker said the only way to help their children is to counsel and seek assistance in raising them.

"Hiding your bad sons and daughters is not a permanent solution. Let the law play its part and all shall well," he said.

Tandaza also blamed the security apparatus for being lenient in handling criminals.

He said that instead of taking culprits to court, they release them on illegal bonds.

The MP said it is a situation that derails the efforts in fighting crime as the same youth go back to terrorize citizens.

He urged the officers to stick to their principles and work by the law.

However, county commissioner Gideon Oyagi said county security is intact.

He said police have been deployed in various areas and intensified patrols to quell any security threats and arrest culprits.

"What I can assure everyone is that Kwale is safe and anyone can come," he said.

Last month county police commander Steve Amrose Steve Oloo raised concern over the rising gang members who pose as footballers.
