Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday took his campaigns to Kwale.

He attended a Bible translation event at Kinango Primary School in Kinango and led a tree planting exercise as he sells his bottom-up economic model.

The DP was accompanied by Governor Salim Mvurya, area MP Benjamin Tayari, Kilifi North MP Owen Baya among other local leaders.

Ruto said Kenya is past the politics of ethnicity.

He said ethnicity is backward and benefits only a few leaders in the society.

Instead, Ruto said leaders must unite and work towards transforming the country.

“That is why we are determined to build a formidable, issues-driven national political party that will bring all Kenyans together,” he said.

He lauded the church for its contribution to the development, governance and prosperity of the country.

“We will continue cooperating with the church because its footprints in education, health and other social services sectors in our country  are evident,” he explained.

On Friday, while Ruto campaigned in Nyandarua, his allies said that their resolve to back him for the top seat was unstoppable.

They said that they will not submit to threats and intimidation aimed at them with the intention to support ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

The MPs who accompanied the DP in his tour said the use of state institutions to threaten and intimidate them will not stop them from supporting Ruto.

They included Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Kindiki Kithure (Tharaka Nithi), Alice Wahome (Kandara), John Kinyua (Laikipia), Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu) and Wanjiku Muhia (EALA).

Gachagua said a section of state officials were abusing their power by coercing leaders and the people to support Raila.

"We will not allow the police and provincial administrators to dictate to us the direction we will take as a people of Mt Kenya," Gachagua said.
