Kenya Prisons are the 2021 national volleyball women's champions after crushing Kenya Commercial Bank 3-1 at Makande Hall, Mombasa on Sunday.
The wardresses entered the KCB match knowing that only a win would guarantee them their third consecutive title because their rivals had won all their matches without conceding a set.
Prisons bagged the first set 25-22 to mark a dream start after conceding three sets prior to the decider.
The bankers conjured an equaliser, grabbing the second set with a classy 25-13 win—a timely reminder to their rivals of their title intent.
The wardresses regrouped after hitting an all-time low in the second set to win the subsequent set 25-22 and any hope of a comeback from KCB were dashed as Prisons sealed the title with a 25-17 fourth set cruise.
Prisons ended the season unbeaten after surviving scares against a battling DCI, who they edged 3-2 in a five-set opening match on Friday. Even though KCB boast a quality squad after huge investment with six players roped in before the season started, they will have to wait till next season to try their luck.
Despite managing just one set in two matches, Kenya Pipeline were a class act against DCI, demolishing them 3-0. Sets of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-19 enabled the oil merchants to finish third after starting bottom of the four-team tournament on the last day.
In the men's third place playoffs, KPA's impressive straight sets of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18 saw the hosts end the campaign on a high against KDF. KPA had lost against both Kenya Prisons and GSU in the opening two matches but the much needed victory left them third.
The soldiers exited the stage without testing victory. KPA's outside hitter Dennis Omollo who recently earned his first call up to the Gideon Tarus- led national team was impressive.
