Police have 21 days to investigate two suspects linked with the murder of Dutch tycoon Herman Rouwenhourst.

Timothy Omondi alias Mohammed Khalid and Mercy Masika are suspected to have killed Rouwenhorst at his Rocco apartment in Shanzu area, Mombasa county.

Senior Principal Magistrate David Odhiambo directed the suspects be detained at the Bamburi and Nyali police stations as the police finish the investigations.

According to investigation officer Reuben Mwaniki, the duo were arrested at their newly constructed mansion which was built on a newly acquired piece of land.

Mwaniki told the court they were investigating on whether the funds used in purchasing the land were the same funds stolen from the deceased house during the incident.

Mwaniki said unknown amount of Kenyan shillings and foreign currencies were stolen from a safe in the house.

The IO said the new house also had new appliances such as TV set, a refrigerator and so on.

The police sought more time so as to also track down the seller of the land so as he could record his statement as well as produce the sell records.

The police further told the court that it is suspected that Omondi was the one who removed the murder weapon from the scene.

During their arrest at Florida village in Kiembeni area, a live ammunition and a bullet were recovered.

The police also recovered clothes which contained blood stains.

The investigators are expected to forward the recovered items to the laboratories for tests.

Last month, the deceased's wife, Riziki Cherono, was arraigned over the murder.

She is yet to take a plea.
