Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday warned national leaders against disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family.
He spoke after several leaders who attended the homecoming party for the Msambweni MP-elect Feisal Bader in Ukunda seemed to attack the President.
Impeached Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko narrated his ordeal in the Jubilee government bitterly condemning the suffering he went through.
But Ruto said politicians should avoid politics of hatred and revenge and look for things that bind people together.
“I know so many leaders have suffered a lot, some stripped off from leadership positions but I beg you let’s be calm, forgive each other and don’t allow insults or anger to drive our politics,” he said.
He said people should learn to pray for enemies and wish them better in their endeavours.
The DP said whatever happened God knows it better and he will definitely do what is necessary for fairness, equality and justice to prevail.
He said it was essential for people to maintain respect, saying everyone plays a significant role.
Ruto said leadership is a God-given talent and requires a lot of patience and humility.
He urged leaders to embrace peace and work together in solving daily challenges affecting the citizens.
Former National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale also cautioned politicians against abusing the ODM party and its members.
He said the ODM party moulded some of the leaders like himself and Ruto.
Duale said the priority should be on how to transform Kenya to be better but not doing politics of name-calling and blame games.
He warned some of Ruto's allies against advising him to ditch the Jubilee Party.
The Garissa MP said defecting from the party would cost Ruto a lot.
He said people should not be like Raila Odinga who doesn’t learn from past experiences.
“The only person who doesn’t learn the Kenyan politics is my friend Raila and has now walked into another trap. Let’s not make a similar mistake,” Duale said.
