Kaya elders are working on a formula to vet all political aspirants ahead of next year's election, their chairman Abdallah Mnyenze has said.

He said most leaders who ascend to power fail to fulfill their promises once elected.

Speaking to the Star on the phone on Tuesday, Mnyenze said the Kaya Elders Council will marshal electorates from all the counties in the region to esure all aspirants are publicly scrutinised.

“We know most of the politicians forget the electorate once elected, but this time we have said enough is enough. As elders we will give the directions on how the exercise will be done. We will support those who will meet the threshold of the elders and the electorate,” he said

Mnyenze said divisions are increasing as the general election approaches.

“If you look at Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa and all the other counties, infighting is weighing heavily on development. The leaders we elected are always fighting one another,” he said.

Mnyenze said leaders who snub the vetting "will not get a single vote".
