Founder of the Republican Congress Party and cabinet secretary Najib Balala has offered it to Coast leaders free of charge as a vehicle they could use to push their own agenda in national politics.

This comes barely three days after Coast politicians made yet another declaration that they will be forming a party of their own.

Speaking during a local radio talk show in Mombasa yesterday morning, Balala said Coast leaders have to be serious about forming a party.

“If we have no vehicle, we can easily be forced out of someone else’s vehicle mid-way through the journey,” said the cabinet secretary, who is not in active politics anymore.

He said Coast leaders must not be constantly using threats to get their way as they did when Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro was about to be ousted from the minority chief whip position in the National assembly by Cord’s ODM.

He said they must be brave enough to take a firm stand on any matter.

“Siasa ni simama utegwe (Politics is about standing on your feet and facing your opponent),” he said.

He said there are about 6-7 parties in Coast that could be used as a vehicle for the Coast agenda. He however warned about forming a coalition of parties. He said they must choose one party and strengthen it.

He said his RC is already registered and has already developed roots. He said it is the party that has enabled him become a cabinet secretary.

“I am a cabinet secretary. I do not want anything. I will talk to the leaders and give it free of charge – no conditions, no payment, nothing,” said Balala.

He said he is ready to sacrifice it for the benefit of Coast residents.

Speaking about 2017 politics, he said he will follow what Coast people will decide.
