A section of Tana River county leaders have decried the low population of the area. The leaders said locals should take advantage of the free maternity health services ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta to increase child deliveries. Galole MP Hassan Dukicha challenged men to take advantage of the curfew in Tanadelta to spend more time in their homes.

He made the remarks during the homecoming ceremony of Garsen MP at the Garsen Primary school grounds, which was attended by five leaders from Tana River county and Lamu together with the Governor Hussein Dhadho. “You have no problem with delivery now, even the previous charges have been scrapped off," he said.

Dukicha hailed the President for the directive saying it will reduce maternity costs for women in poverty stricken areas. Other legislators present were Bura MP Hassan Wario, Lamu East MP Shakilla Abdalla and Sharif Ali. Dukicha said the population of Tanariver ought to be increased to more than 100,000.

Uhuru issued a directive to all health facilities to begin offering free maternity services in the country. Wario said they will push to ensure the curfew is removed as peace has returned in Tanadelta. He appealed to residents to maintain peace and stop conflicts that create violence. The Tanadelta was largely affected by ethnic violence from August last year to April this year.
