Simon Mwangi said most people were woken up by the screams of neighbours as they sought assistance.
“They hurriedly rushed out and started removing their property. At that point, most of them were already injured,” he said.
Mwangi said the boys family failed to locate where he was sleeping during the chaotic escape. He was burnt beyond recognition.
However, when the Kiambu county firefighters arrived, angry residents turned them away claiming they did not arrive in time.
A resident Bedan Njoroge asked Governor Kimani Wamatangi to ensure all towns in the subcounty have fire engines, to assist residents whenever necessary.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
