Kiambu MCAs from different political parties have vowed to support Governor Kimani Wamatangi to develop the county.

Wamatangi was elected on a UDA ticket and was sworn in as the fourth governor succeeding James Nyoro.

Speaking to the Star, Komothai MCA-elect Wanyutu Waweru of Chama Cha Kazi said that the ward reps will accord the governor ample time to deliver services to residents.

He said residents are already waiting for better roads, clean water, improved education system and security as promised during the campaigns.

Waweru said campaigns are over and now leaders should work together to improve lives in the society irrespective of their political affiliation.

“We will work with Wamatangi to ensure services reach our people and we fulfill the promises he made to voters," Wanyutu said.

Kalimoni ward MCA Godfrey Waiyaki Mucheke 0f UDA said the assembly will do its oversight work as stipulated by the constitution.

He said that having worked with former governors Ferdinand Waititu and Nyoro most of the assembly time was lost on succession and impeachment politics.

He noted that the assembly will ensure that there is peace and unity between, them and the executive.

“We will pass bills that empower service delivery and ensure the budget is passed in good faith at the appropriate time,” Mucheke said.

He further said that Wamatangi must have a good plan for the county and should not be distracted from fulfilling his pledges to the people of Kiambu.

Mucheke said they will try their best to sort out any difference between legislatures and the executive earlier to prevent a big fallout.

Kikuyu ward MCA Kamau James Boro said Wamatangi should work with assembly and ensure all stalled projects left behind by his predecessor are completed.

Boro noted that service to the community equals service to God.

“In the county assembly, teamwork is critical for service delivery and we will support Wamatangi so that our people can enjoy the fruits of devolution," he said.

Immediate former majority leader Antony Ikonya warned MCAs to avoid being divided along party lines as this would derail service delivery.

He said in the last assembly, the members were divided which resulted in the impeachment of Waititu.

"I would like to request the county assembly members to give Wamatangi ample time to serve Wanjiku and to remain united, “Konya said.

He further urged MCAs to elect a speaker who is independent and not aligned with any political divide.

Former chairman of Mt Kenya MCA caucus Charles Mwangi said the leadership of the county assemblies should be harmonised to avoid fallout.

He noted that all governors should have good leadership with MCAs to ensure that bills are passed in good time.

“I would like to urge governors and their assemblies to promote unity and serve Wanjiku without constant fights," he said.
