Outgoing Laikipia governor Nderitu Muriithi has congratulated Joshua Irungu upon his declaration as the governor-elect.
In a letter dated August 13, seen by the Star, Muriithi noted that he personally called and congratulated Irungu.
“I have this afternoon called and conveyed my warm congratulations message to H.E. Joshua Irungu on his declaration as the governor-elect of our great county of Laikipia,” the letter reads.
Muriithi also assured Irungu and his team of a smooth handover and also thanked other leaders who won.
“Additionally, I take this opportunity to congratulate all the leaders elected at different levels in the general election on August 9," Muriithi said.
He said the general election is an important democratic exercise that gives citizens the power to elect leaders who will serve them.
Muriithi lost after garnering 49,291 votes against Irungu's 114,094.
Irungu served as Laikipia governor between 2013 to 2017 after he was elected on a TNA ticket but was beaten by Muriithi an independent candidate in 2017 polls.
