Zetech University has revealed its most applied course within its faculties.
On Monday, Dr Owen Ngumi, the dean of the School of Education, Arts and Social Sciences at the university, said their internal audit revealed that the Bachelor of Education programme attracted many students.
''The Bachelor of Education programme has attracted many students, becoming the most popular in the university. Kenya has a shortage of teachers and with the coming of the Competency-Based Curriculum, this gap is expected to grow bigger,’’ Ngumi said.
''Our Comission of University Education accredited and TSC approved Bachelor of Education programme has been sought after by both employers and schools seeking interns during teaching practice.
"The school is currently reviewing its teacher training programme to align it to CBC."
The university, which has its main campus in Ruiru, Kiambu county, said the School of Education, Arts and Social Sciences is increasingly becoming popular due to its learner-centred approach and focus on industry performance.
''Zetech University has been leading in training youth in technology and business courses. However, in recent years, taking cognisance of the need to develop human skill and thought we ventured into arts, social sciences, education and human services courses,’’ the university said.
Presently, the university is among the leading trainers in degree and diploma courses in the area of human services.
The university's other popular programme is the Bachelor of International Relations and Diplomacy.
''The university is committed to moulding individuals to tackle diplomatic challenges in the region and globally," Ngumi said.
"The challenge of security has been addressed by the development of a diploma programme in criminology and security studies, a course that has become very popular among security practitioners."
Other sought after courses are diploma and bachelors in Hospitality and Tourism Management.
The above is closely followed by Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with Technology, Bachelor of Arts in sociology and Technology, and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Technology, and Community Health programmes.
''Recognising that tourism is a critical economic factor in Kenya, Zetech developed a diploma and bachelor's degree courses to provide labour to this sub-sector," he said
Diploma in Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, and the Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management have produced many graduates working in key areas in this sub-sector."
