Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has urged his opponents to conduct peaceful campaigns ahead of the August 9 election.

Nyoro, who is seeking a second term on Jubilee Party ticket, spoke on Sunday after he was cleared by IEBC at Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology.

“I believe we will have a joint meeting as contenders together with the IEBC so that we can harmonise and synchronise our campaign schedules and calendar which we have already submitted,” he said.

“We will take it seriously on whoever incites people. As competitors, we must commit to be peaceful.”

Nyoro will face Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Thika MP Patrick Wainaina, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo.

He said they have gone through the IEBC code of conduct and each knows what is required of them.

Nyoro said the IEBC has proved it is well-prepared for the elections and he has confidence the electoral agency will conduct free and fair elections.

“I have all the reasons to believe that IEBC is capable of delivering a free and fair election. I know we politicians want to have our way, but I think we must facilitate their work by conducting peaceful campaigns until August,” he said.

The governor urged Kiambu residents to vote wisely and go for transformative and development-conscious leaders.

Nyoro denied allegations that he has been using public resources in his campaigns.

“We are not using public funds to campaign. We are prepared to do the campaigns using our personal resources,” he said.
