The issuance of direct tickets is skewed, Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri has protested.
He said there's regional imbalance in the distribution of tickets, denying some representatives a chance to run for election.
The Jubilee Party governor aspirant spoke in Mwea on Friday.
He cited his constituency, Mwea, saying it has been sidelined as natives of other constituencies received direct nominations.
Ndambiri said it is only fair to give him the party ticket, even though a consensus has not been reached on who between him and Senator Charles Kibiru will be the flagbearer,
For regional balance, he explained.
He said Mwea is the largest constituency and the economic backbone of Kirinyaga.
“Mwea has an estimated 180,000 registered voters out of the county’s population of an estimated 600,000. The constituency has the largest number of wards yet it is the most neglected," Ndambiri said.
"This time around we want the county chief to hail from Mwea so that its people too can have a taste of the county leadership.”
He said if deliberations between him and Kibiru fail, eminent persons should intervene.
“The ticket for the position of county governor is yet to be issued as discussions between myself and Senator Kibiru are ongoing. We have, however, maintained that none of us will lose as one of us will vie for governor and the other becomes the running mate,” Ndambiri said.
“We have agreed that this will be a win-win situation for both of us. Ministerial positions will be distributed fairly because many deputy governors have been sidelined in the running of the counties.”
He suggested the use of a scientific poll to settle on the right candidate.
“The party can carry out this exercise by making random calls to county residents on who their preferred candidate is. This would enable us to save time so as to hit the ground running in preparation for August 9,” the aspirant said
Ndambiri urged his supporters to ignore fake reports that he has abandoned Jubilee.
He made the clarification after senator aspirant Antony Karimi quit the party to run as an independent.
Karimi said he "listened to the ground", which advised him to contest as an independent.
This was after the Jubilee Party ticket was handed to former Senator Daniel Karaba.
