- Thumi said the vegetation where the body was discovered appeared to have been disturbed an indication of a struggle between her and the killer.
- Residents decry rising cases of mugging and call on the state to intervene.
A woman was found murdered and her body dumped in a wastewater terrace at Kenya Railway station in Limuru.
The body was discovered on Tuesday behind Kenya Railway Nursery School by passersby.
Their screams disrupted pupils and attracted more residents to the scene. Police arrived shortly.
Limuru deputy subcounty police commander Gitonga Thumi said they have launched investigations to establish the motive of the murder since the woman was half-naked and had bruises on her neck.
Thumi said the vegetation where the body lay appeared to have been disturbed, an indication of a struggle between her and the killer.
“We cannot speak much about how she was murdered, but investigations will shed more light. A postmortem will be conducted,” Thumi said.
The police boss said the body was identified and taken to Uphome Funeral Home.
Residents said thugs who mug people in the evening have reemerged.
A trader John Gitau said a gang of four armed men has been waylaying people and mugging them at night near the Kenya Railways area.
“Some robbers even call you by name. People fear reporting them since if someone knows you, they might come to your house at night,” Gitau said.
Limuru Central MCA aspirant Stephen Mwangi has urged the officers from Limuru Town police station and those who man the Railway station to partner and conduct patrols.
“Insecurity should not be a discussion in the area since we have police. They can conduct patrols and use intelligence reports to develop strategies of dealing with these thugs,” Mwangi said.
Mwangi also urged residents, especially women, to avoid walking alone at night.
“When we have cases of insecurity in an area, people should not walk alone at night, thugs tend to keep off groups,” he said.
