Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has hit out at his competitors in the 2022 elections saying some of them are not qualified to run for lack of university education.
He also said others are facing corruption allegations.
Kahiga said some gubernatorial candidates, whom he did not name, are buying university degrees to enable them to contests in the gubernatorial election.
The governor said Nyeri residents cannot trust such people and urged them not to elect people who have no vision for the county.
He said others have run down all the companies that they have worked for and wondered how they will successfully run the county.
Kahiga spoke on Wednesday during the commissioning of the disbursement of Sh40 million Elimu Fund bursary cheques to principals in Nyeri county.
He said around November, another Sh60 million will be disbursed.
The governor said having bursary is not a sign of weakness and needy people will always be there and the government must answer to their needs.
“Those of you who have been in the field know how people struggle over the bursary and the most annoying thing is that some people who are able want to collect them,” he said.
He said there is need to leave the bursary to the needy.
The money given to vulnerable children went towards their school fees.
He said the Sh40 million was just the first batch of the bursary money to be given.
About 10,047 students benefitted from the bursary.
Kahiga said the programme has dispatched Sh280 million since he took over government and benefitted 61,000 students.
