The state has told off leaders marketing sketchy economic plans aimed at pushing their own political agendas, at the expense of gullible Kenyans.

The move was seen to target deputy president William Ruto's 'bottom- up' economic model slogan.

Interior principal secretary Karanja Kibicho on Friday said that a nation cannot develop on the basis of empty rhetorics as those being peddled by Ruto.

He said that for any efficient development plan there has to be an economic blue print based on workable strategies.

"You don't empower a nation through noise in public rallies.

"Empowerment is achieved through implementation of policies and  strategies like infrastructure development, improvement of agricultural practices, food production and equipping research facilities."

Kibicho was speaking in Kirinyaga county during the inspection of Thiba dam project which is currently 64 percent complete.

He noted that with the completion of the dam in November, rice production will increase and ultimately secure government's agenda of food security, as an extra 10,000 acres will be put under rice farming.

"These are the kind of projects that seeks to empower ordinary wananchi, through putting in place frame works and infrastructural projects, farming more rice and marketing their produce," he said.

The PS hailed the national irrigation for overseeing a successful project this far.

He noted that with consistency and steadfastness being channeled into the works, the project will be delivered by end year.

"This project was shrouded by struggles at the initial stages but due to our close monitoring we were able to unlock challenges amongst them litigation and land compensation cases,"Kibicho said.

The Sh8 billion facility nests on a 500 acre piece of land and it's completion is projected to double rice cropping seasons.

Moreover, it will increase rice quantity from 114,000 metric tons to 200,000 metric tons, in total 35,000 acres are to be put under rice farming per season.

Water and irrigation Principal secretary Wairagu Irungu said the project will be critical in enhancing food security in the country.

He said his ministry is working round the clock to ensure that by June next year it will have completed  two other mega water projects in Kirinyaga county.

The projects are Kerugoya-Kutus bulk water supply and Kerugoya-Kutus sewerage plant.

His sentiments were backed by his infrastructure counterpart Paul Maringa who expressed his excitement over the modern technology being applied in building the Thiba dam facility.

He also noted that the project would play a role in  opening up Kirinyaga county and enhance urbanisation.
