Lari MP Jonah Mburu has urged youths to be creative and take up the opportunities being offered by government.

The Kiambu legislator on Saturday said so many youths have been left languishing in poverty since they seek office employment, others rely on politician’s handouts and others well established people in the society.

He urged the youth to be alert on training opportunities being offered by the government and organisations such as churches.

He was speaking to The Star at Nyambare village, after he opened the training of 700 youths on Thursday.

The youth will be trained on catering, plumbing, cosmetology and electrical courses funded by his CDF office.

His office is partnering with different colleges to offer those courses at certificate and diploma levels.

Owing to the Covid-19 protocols, the youths are taking their training at different places in Kijabe, Kinale, Kirenga, Nyanduma and Kamburu wards.

“Our youth are so creative, they only require drivers to exploit their potential. These courses will make them busy daily after they graduate," Mburu said.

"We shall reduce idleness, begging of money and poverty among the youth” he added.

The MP said instead of some of our youth taking up opportunities such as this, they start criticising.

“After all, whoever will benefit is the one who will acquire knowledge, since it will help you start a smart life” he said.

The legislator applauded President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government for coming up with technology training opportunities supported by the Ministry of ICT.

Though the initiative the youth are trained on how to earn online such as Ajira Digital.

Mburu said his constituency so far has four training ICT hubs, however, the number of youths seeking to train keeps on rising every month.

A youth, Joshua Gathiru urged young people not to lose focus because of politics and work hard to improve their lives.

“These opportunities are offered so as to add value to our lives. Let us concentrate on where we are headed since we are growing older as days go by” he said.

However, the MP urged the youth to also take advantage of government funded revolving funds such as Youth Enterprise Fund, Women Enterprise Fund or Uwezo Fund to boost their enterprises or start businesses.
