The body of a 57- year-old woman was on Monday retrieved from a borehole at her home in a village in Lari constituency.

Beatrice Magiri was expected at her co-wife’s home on Monday at Ha Edward village in Kinale ward, but she never showed up.

Her husband John Kimani said his two wives are friends, and that last week, they planned to jointly relocate his second wife.

“We invited the whole village to come and help us carry the house from one place to another in my farm. We agreed with Beatrice on Sunday that she will come on Monday” he said.

“However, we did not see her the whole day. I got so curious, and after the work, we went to her house to check on her,” Kimani said.

The family was shocked to see some stones removed from her house and items had been ransacked. A search ensued.

“Her mobile phone was off. We noticed her head turban near the borehole, we become suspicious and called the police,” Kimani’s brother Daniel Maina said.

Lari DCI Eunice Maingi confirmed the incident, saying together with fire fighters from Kiambu, they retrieved the body and took it to Uplands Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.

However, the detective said the body did not have injuries.

Speaking at her office at Lari police headquarters, Maingi said her killers stole a television set and her mobile phone.

“We are doing investigations to shall establish what else was stolen and may be know the motive of the murder” she said.

A resident Salome Wanja said they were shocked since Magiri was a humble, hardworking and soft spoken woman.

She asked the police to investigate since they have been left with so many unanswered questions.
