Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has put on notice public land grabbers saying her administration will apprehend them.

She reiterated that her government is hawk-eyed in ensuring all public land is protected.

The governor gave the warning while receiving title deed for a 250-acre land that had been grabbed by a private developer in Thigirici, Ndia constituency.

Waiguru expressed her excitement over repossessing the land saying it will be earmarked for an industrial park .

“We have gone through a tough and rigorous litigation process in both Kerugoya High Court and the National Land Commission while pursuing this land. Our lawyers have put up  a spirited fight that has earned us victory at last. The land is now officially owned by the county government of Kirinyaga,” she said.

“Moving forward, we are hopeful  that we will establish an industrial park which will be key in providing jobs for our people and transforming the economy of the county and the region at large,” she added.

She said the land is prime as it located next to the Sagana railway line thus will greatly complement the industrial hub. That in effect, she said, will attract investors who will put up manufacturing plants, hospitality related industries that will provide employment to county residents.

The expansive land is said to have been grabbed during the defunct Kirinyaga county council era and assigned to an individual through illegal means.

The county chief said her government was in the process of repossessing other public land that have been  grabbed. This is among others a 200-acre piece  in south Ngariama, Mwea settlement scheme and others that have been earmarked for the establishment of an institution, health centre and a recreational facility.

“We have to recover all those lands that were grabbed or sold by fake allotees so as to establish development projects to help our people,” the governor said.
