The county government of Kiambu has taken the fight against corruption a notch higher as it seeks to protect public funds from theft by civil servants and other officials.

Governor James Nyoro said that in two weeks alone, the county has collected more than Sh50 million in revenue, against the less than Sh15 million it collects every week.

He said two weeks ago the county collected Sh55 million while the week before that, they collected Sh58 million from parking, market and other fees it collects.

Nyoro warned that his administration was keen on revenue collection, adding that the money will assist the government in service delivery.

"We are very keen, we have been able to collect money we never thought we would realise. This money will help us to improve roads and other infrastructure as well as deliver other services," he said.

The governor lauded his service delivery advisor John Mugwe for assisting the county seal the loopholes used by county workers to steal.

Nyoro reveals that the issue has not gone well with some officials, since some are using social media to tarnish Mugwe's name.

"When someone's loopholes are blocked, those people cannot be happy. Let us all support our government as we try to safeguard what we have and ensure you get better services" he said.

Nyoro was speaking on Monday at Rironi, in Limuru Central ward.
