A family in Lari constituency in Kiambu county has asked police to hasten investigations and arrest the suspects who entered in their home and killed their 87-year-old father last week on Friday night.

Njeri Kiriga said their father, Joseph Kiriga, was attacked in his bedroom by the thugs, who beat him to death as their mother watched helplessly.

She said the gang of three entered their father’s home in Bathi village near Kimende town and switched off the  power at the metre box before entering the house.

“We don’t understand how the thugs entered into our compound. They unplugged the electricity and broke a glass window pane at the door where they opened the door and entered the house,” she said.

Their house help, Serah Nyambura, heard movements inside the house and started screaming, but it was too late since one of them entered her room and hit her on the head and she collapsed on the floor.

“I was pulled to the sitting room, I was bleeding from the face. They asked me so many things,” she said.

It was at this time they left her in the sitting room, entered Kiriga’s bedroom and demanded money.

A member of the burial committee, Charles Manji, said Kiriga’s body was taken to Uplands Funeral Home. The burial is on Thursday.

Manji said the family has urged the police to arrest those behind the killing, saying the gang could take advantage of the ongoing curfew to break into people’s home.

“The family and locals are ready to assist police with information regarding the arrest of the suspects. These people could take advantage of the curfew imposed throughout the country since people cannot respond to distress calls by neighbours,” Manji said.
