Kiambu county commissioner Wilson Wanyanga has said Mungiki tag is being used to create fear among Gatundu South residents.
Speaking in Kiambu town on Monday, Wanyanga told Kiambu residents there was no Mungiki resurgence or organised groupsand there was no alarming insecurity as depicted by a section of the media.
“We can assure Gatundu South residents and Kiambu residents as a whole that there is no insecurity as it has been reported in the media and the few cases that have been reported, the police have been able to handle them. More police officers have been deployed to patrol in the affected areas of the county,” Wanyanga said.
He added that the security personnel from the subcounty — deputy county commissioner, OCPD , DCIO Gatundu South —have been moved to other regions and new security personnel deployed in the area as directed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
This came after Matiangi visited Gatundu South last week after residents decried rising cases of defilement, robbery with violence and burglary in the area.
Matiang’i announced reorganisation of security and national government administration in the county to address administrative challenges that have compromised security operations.
