The construction of the World Bank funded Ksh 24 billion Karimenu 11 dam now hangs in the balance after residents of Kiriko, Buchana and Kanyoni villages in Gatundu North vowed to fight any attempts by the government to commence it's construction

The over 4,000 residents held a demonstration along the Thika- Naivasha highway on Monday completely paralyzing transport activities for over 2 hours and accused the state of reneging on it's earlier promise over compensation

Police had a hard time controlling the angry demonstrators and were forced to use teargas to disperse them.

The demonstrators spokesman Mathew Mwangi Mukuha said that since pronouncement that the dam would be built on their land in 2011, they have suffered psychological torture, have not been making any meaningful developments on their land while others have died from blood pressure.
