A couple in Gatukuyu village, Gatundu North constituency was found dead on Sunday morning.
The woman lay in a pool of blood in the bedroom while the man was found hanging from the ceiling.
Relatives say they suspect Michael Kinyanjui, 41, killed his 37-year-old wife, Jane Wangui, before hanging himself.
His body was found dangling inside their house.
The couple had been married for 18 years and had four children.
Their first born son will be joining university this year, while the second born is in form two.
The third born is expected to join form one, while the last born is in standard six.
Kinyanjui’s sister, Bernadetta Wagio, said the couple had quarrelled on Saturday evening after Wangui came home late from Thika town, where she had gone shopping.
She said one of the children told her they found their father hanging from the ceiling of a corridor in the house.
Wagio said the form two boy told her he rushed to tell the mother about his father, but found her lying on a pool of blood.
Kinyanjui’s elder brother Gachui Kung’u said they do not know why their brother killed his wife and himself.
He said, however, his brother has been struggling with alcoholism.
Kung’u said Kinyanjui has been in and out of a rehabilitation centre three times, but he was unable to kick his drinking habit.
Wangui’s mother, Alice Gathoni, said she was called at 8.30am and told about the killings.
She said her daughter had earlier on informed her of disagreements with her husband, but she never thought they would result in murder.
Area MCA Kimani Gachihi, who visited the home, urged residents with marital problems to seek help in resolving them.
The bodies were taken to Bishop Okoye mortuary in Thika.
