The Sh331m new outpatient wing at Naivasha sub-county hospital has opened its doors to the public after two years of construction.

The facility that has been constructed by Kengen and Nakuru county governments will offer specialized treatment with victims of road accidents being some of the beneficiaries.

This came as the national government promised to help equip the facility in a bid to deal with the rising numbers of patients from the neighbouring county of Nyandarua seeking specialized treatment.

This emerged when the acting CS for Energy Monica Juma and senior Kengen staff visited the new facility that is now awaiting equipment from the Ministry of Health.

Juma said that the project was part of Kengen's social corporate responsibility to the residents of Naivasha who include Kengen staff.

Addressing the press after visiting the hospital, she noted that the project would come in handy in achieving the government’s envisaged free health care scheme.

“Kengen committed Sh300m and the county Sh31m towards this project that will go a long way in addressing the issues of health in and around Naivasha,” she said on Wednesday.

The CS noted that Naivasha level IV hospital was the second busiest in Nakuru County and the new wing would come in handy in dealing with the rising number of patients.

On her part, the Superintendent in charge of the hospital Dr Angeline Ithondeka said that they were attending to 650 patients every day.

She noted that cases of accidents mainly along the highway were worrying, forcing the hospital to at times refer patients to Nakuru for specialized treatment.

“We expect to acquire machines like CT scan and MRI which come in handy in addressing cases of fatal accidents and in the end reduce deaths by half,” she said.

While praising Kengen and the county government, Ithondeka said that the process of equipping and staffing the new wing had kicked off.

“This is one of the busiest hospitals in the region attending to over 600 patients and registering up to 25 deliveries every day,” she said.

Kengen MD Rebecca Miano said that the power company was keen to support neighbouring communities through various projects like the construction of the multi-million wing.

“The completion of this facility is a major milestone in the health sector and it will change the livelihoods of hundreds of families in Nakuru and Nyandarua counties,” she said.
