• Wambua say that the BBI has no specific benefit for the people of Kitui, no extra constituency.
• He said he had not abandoned his party leader, Kalonzo Musyoko, nor joined the Tangatanga team, but is serving the interest his tribe.
Senator Enoch Wambua has declared "vehement" opposition to the BBI Bill, saying it does nothing for Kitui people who don't even get an extra constituency.
Speaking on Friday, he said the constitutional reforms do nothing to protect the rights, interests and wishes of the people of Kitui.
The Bill is before county assemblies. Twenty-four of 47 must pass it before it goes to Parliament and then a possible referendum.
Wambua expressed regret other areas would get new constituencies while Kitui gets none.
He complained the BBI team "swept under the carpet" the people's priority proposal for splitting Kitui county to create Mwingi county.
The senator did not want to appear at cross-purposes with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoko who supports the Bill.
Therefore, he said he will not ask people to reject BBI, though it does nothing specifically for Kitui and the Kamba people.
He clarified he had taken the ant-BBI stance for the sake of his electorate and was in no way fighting Kalonzo. He said he had neither joined Deputy President William Ruto's Tangatanga camp nor abandoned Kalonzo.
Wambua said it was foolhardy to mix the BBI issue with the 2022 General Election.
"The issues of BBI and the 2022 polls only converge and connect because as a people we have been discriminated against," the senator said.
He pledged to fight for the rights of the Kamba community "to the hilt.
“My family and I will now and in many years to come stand for the rights of Kambas. If I am the only person left fighting for my community, I will fight and die for my community,” the senator declared.
The senator spoke on Friday evening when he condoled with the family of former chairman of the old Mwingi County Council Morris Musyoka Wanzili at Maai village home in Mwingi Central.
Wanzili’s son, Sheria Musyoka, died in a road accident in San Francisco more than a week ago.
Wambua said President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga recently met their communities’ leaders and announced specific BBI benefits for their people, like creation of new constituencies.
“Uhuru Kenyatta told his people BBI will ensure 40 constituencies in the Mt Kenya region and ensure one man, one shilling, one vote - all to their benefit.
More constituencies will give the region more say in Parliament and having the majority of MPs give them the opportunity to occupy the PM position,” he said.
He added that when Raila met his tribesmen he told them as much. He said an additional constituency means more million from the Eexchequer through the NG-CDF kitty.
But nothing for Kitui. Wambua opposes BBI for 'bias against' Kitui voters
