The anti-graft agency has has summoned 12 Kisumu MCAs and four members of staff over corruption and irregular payments allegations.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission wants to establish whether the ward representatives and the employees were paid honoraria during the Budget Committee meetings in the 2018-19 financial year.
The MCAs under scrutiny are Kenneth Onyango (Majority leader), Jane Manuche (nominated), Gard Olima (South-West Nyakach), Julius Genga (Muhoroni/Koru), Seth Ochieng (Market/Milimani), Sally Okudo (Central Seme) and Roy Samo (Kajulu).
The others are Judith Ogaga (Central Kisumu), George Olwal (Kolwa Central), Stephen Ouma (East Kolwa), Aslam Khan (nominated), Kennedy Ooko (Ahero), and Maurice Ngeta (Awasi Onjiko).
The assembly staff are Violet Achieng, Dennis Odhiambo, Felix Owuor and Zachary Ogutu.
EACC deputy regional manager Western Aura Chibole says in a November 9 letter to assembly clerk Owen Ojuok that the members of staff are required for questioning and statement recording.
The questioning is expected to last from Wednesday (yesterday) to November 18. The suspects should bring with them relevant documents.
“Kindly facilitate the under-listed officers to report to our Western Regional office in Kisumu for the interview and statement recording as per the indicated dates and time,” the letter states.
The investigating officers were identified as Doris Nasieku, Francis Wafula and Patrick Mbijiwe. According to EACC Western regional manager Mogare Oira, those summoned allegedly took sitting allowances they are not entitled to.
