Fresh from finishing fourth in the 15's rugby at the National Secondary Schools Games recently in Machakos, Lenana coach Nick Abok has set his sights on winning the National Sevens crown.

Abok said his charges will build on their performance from last year,  where reached the quarter-finals and recent success in the nationals 15's event held in Machakos.

“My focus for the second term is to ensure we qualify for the National Sevens in Kisii in August. Only two schools will qualify from the region and we have a good chance of finishing in the top two based on our current form and preps,” said Abok.

Abok said they will play in the John Andrews Sevens tournament in June which they will host and will be keen to defend the title they won last year.

“It will be a big tournament and several schools from Nairobi and Central will take part in preparation for the regional show. We have to be at our best to ensure we defend the title,” added Abok.

The former Impala coach expects stern defending from the likes of Dagoretti, holders Upper Hill, a revitalised Nairobi School and Ofafa Jericho with only two slots available.

“You saw what happened during the regionals. The margins were very narrow and we expect the Sevens to be equally competitive. Only teams that play intelligent rugby will carry the day and represent Nairobi,” observed Abok.

Abok said they will concentrate on strength and conditioning and skill work to stay ahead of their competitors.

"Sevens is a different ball game from the 15's. Physically, we need to improve our conditioning, skill work, ball handling and breakdown."

Lenana will be gracing the Prescott Cup and St Mary's Blackrock tournaments in May and June respectively as they seek to revive the school's old glory in the sport.
