Valencia 10km Road race bronze medallist Lilian Kasait clocked 4:27.69 to retain her 1,500m title at the Kenya Prisons track and field championahips held at Ulinzi Sports complex on Saturday.

Tecla Cheseret placed second in 4:35.07 with Caren Jebet sealing the podium in 4:37.29.

Last year, Kasait stormed to victory in 4:12.5 with Abigael Chelagat (4:20.5) and Fancy Cherono (4:26.0) settling for second and third respectively.The race is part of her preparations for the Paris Olypic Games trials to be held in June.

"The race was not so tough. But it was an important one as I prepare for the Olympic trials," Kasait noted.

Meanwhile, Loice Chemining proved her mettle by winning the women's 5,000m in 15:55.47. Sheila Chepkurui placed second in 16:47.13 with Penninah Wangari securing third spot in 16:50.23.

Chemining, fresh from a silver medal performance at the Paris 10km Road Race, said she wasn't fully prepared but still managed to secure victory in challenging conditions.

"I wasn't prepared well for the race. I had been given an off season of two weeks but the department called me to show up," she said.

"It was a good race. I was able to push myself to get the victory. The only challenge was the weather," Loise stated.

In the men's 10,000m, Charles Mneria upgraded his second-place fin8sh from last year to strike the title in 28:50.14.

Ousted champion Isiah Lasoi placed second in 28:52.41 with Peter Emase settling for third in 29:32.05.Lasoi claimed victory last year after clocking 28:33.7 with Muneria (28:37.8) and Cornelius Kangogo (28:54.5) completing the podium placings.

Mneria, who had earlier stated he had switched to the full Marathon, stated that he was taking part in his first race of the season to build on his endurance.

"This is my first race this season. It was a fair one. I pushed myself to the finish line and I am glad I won. I wanted to build up on my endurance for this busy season," Mneria noted.

Elsewhere, Edwin Too dominated the men's 110m hurdles, clocking 15.48.

Sammy Rigut placed second in 16.64 and William Nyagaka clocking 16.69 for third.

Gladys Ngure retained her title in the women's 100m hurdles after crossing the finish line in 15.18.

Maurine Wafula (16.33) and Janet Chepkoech (18.23) settled for second and third respectively.
