Former Cabinet minister and Ndia MP Robinson Njeru Githae has unveiled 15 books he has authored.

Speaking during the launch at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, Githae said the event symbolised the realisation of his childhood dream of becoming an author.

“It is never too late for anyone to find peace in realising their childhood dreams,” he said.

He said his dream was delayed because of his active career as a lawyer, politician, minister and ambassador.

All the 15 books have “The Trial” prefix appearing on every title.

They include The Trial of Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, The Trial of the Mysterious Mugo wa Kibiru, The Trial of Tom Mboya and so forth.

The books caught the eyes of those in attendance and Githae said he would rather leave it for the readers to discover.

He revealed that he started working on the titles when still in active public service life but was only able to focus on the project better after retirement.

Court of Appeal Judge Mwaniki Gachoka, who mentored Githae, emphasised the need for writers to tell Kenyan stories.

Former Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho called on Kenyans to embrace the culture of reading African literature.

Githae said writing is one way of creating jobs in the country.

He said his late sister Prof Miceere Mugo partly influenced his love for writing.

Mugo was a playwright, author, activist and poet.

She was a literary critic and professor of Literature, Creative Writing and Research Methods in the Department of African American Studies at Syracuse University, US.

Mugo’s publications include six books, a play co-authored with Ngugi wa Thiong'o and three monographs.

She also edited journals and the Zimbabwean school curriculum.

The East African Standard listed her among the 100 most influential people in Kenya in 2002.

Githae was elected to represent the Ndia Constituency in the National Assembly in 2002.

He served as assistant minister in the ministries of Justice, Transport and Local Government before being appointed a minister in the ministries of Nairobi Metropolitan and Finance.

Githae was later appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta as Kenya's ambassador to the US on August 14, 2014.

He was later transferred to Vienna in May 2019, as Kenya’s ambassador to Austria.
