President William Ruto has said that if Members of Parliament put the money allocated to them through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) into good use, they will automatically be re-elected.

Speaking on Friday, Ruto insisted that it is all they need because it puts about Sh600 million at their disposal every five years they are in office.

He said with such an amount invested wisely in working for constituents, one should not fail to win an election.

"Because CDF puts at your disposal close to Sh600 million in your term of five years. Friends, with Sh600 million, if you cannot win an election then wewe ni bure kabisa," Ruto said.

The President noted that the NG-CDF is a very important tool in terms of offering the people locally developed interventions.

He said the fund, which he described as 'sacrosanct' is all any good leader needs to be re-elected.

"Many will remember that my constituency was awarded several times for the best use of funds. I say that very proudly. To contextualise and so that every Member of Parliament here understands, that CDF is a very important instrument for intervening on locally developed priorities at the grassroots.

"And because you hold that instrument, it is sacrosanct and I promise you members, you don't need anything else. If you use CDF properly, you will be re-elected. Just that," Ruto said.

He spoke during the 20th anniversary of the NG-CDF held at the Safari Park Hotel, in Nairobi.

In his address, Ruto said that any elected Member of Parliament who misappropriates the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) should never be elected.

"Any member of parliament who presides over the misappropriation of CDF or the theft of CDF should never be elected. They should never be elected because it is the ultimate betrayal of the people who elected you," he said.

Ruto went on to state that an elected MP has a salary of Sh1 million and they have no business misappropriating money meant for the education of their constituents.

He insisted that such people should be chased away.

"The people of Kenya have elected you, you have a salary of Sh1 million and then the money meant for the bursary of their children, money meant for the education of their children wewe umeenda kuhangaika nayo mpaka imepotea," the President said.
