Daystar coach impressed despite loss to champs NCPB

Reigning champions National Cereals and Produce Board defeated Daystar University 36-24 in a Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league clash at Nyayo National Stadium.

The Millers, still unbeaten from 16 games, led 18-13 at half-time and went all the way.

Despite the loss, Daystar tactician Martin Mwangi hailed his charges for their showing.

'The game was really good and the boys stepped up to the task. Holding NCPB to that level was not easy,"  Kamau said.

"The goal difference was good. The boys made sure they utilised all the chances, had quick starts and a good defence."

"NCPB play well with line players and jump shots. We made sure we stopped them from doing that. This was a good game and an outstanding performance from my boys."

Winston Chekai scored six goals and Julius Chiula added four for NCPB. Amos Okwako tallied 10 goals and Philip Kiplagat four for the students.

The campus girls trailed 15-14 at halftime and had 12 goals from Juma and five each from Billadonner Elizabeth and Yvonne Omwenga.

"The ladies trailed at half-time but we stepped up in the second half. The win is important to us."

Nancy Owaga managed to tally nine as Winfred Kimangi grabbed another six in a losing effort.

In another game, Equity Bank broke away in the last half to thump Daystar University 41-20 as Brian Murangiri notched eight goals.

Kitale-based Trans Nzoia had 10 goals from Kevin Wasike and nine each from Dan Ngoni and Collins Simiyu as they drubbed Buccaneers 41-34.

Wasike hit 12 as they clawed back from a five-goal deficit to draw 31-31 against General Service Unit (GSU) in an entertaining tie.

Ulinzi ripped Boomerang 50-27 in a game that saw Kevin Imo pick up nine goals for the soldiers.

Desert Scorpions dismissed Nanyuki 44-36 as the winners' Martin Orera rattled in a game-high 17 goals. Ulinzi Sharks had 10 goals from Sarah Wasike as they ripped Daystar University 38-20.
