Mt Kenya politicians, especially those in the opposition, will tomorrow hold a key public meeting dubbed Limuru 3 to rally their huge constituency together with their eyes smack on 2027.
But as often with a sprawling and diverse grouping, opinion is invariably divided between the big names in government and those outside Kenya Kwanza.
After 18 months of the KK government, Mt Kenya has started grumbling loudly about what they consider the attention they believe they are not getting from the Ruto administration.
And as a sign that select Kenya Kwanza politicians see Limuru 3 as a future threat, calls have now been made to call off the meeting or for the meeting to be banned.
But politics is a game of communication without which any democracy quickly morphs into a dictatorship that discourages alternative opinions.
The debate that Limuru 3 will spark will surely be beneficial to the growth and maturity of our democracy.
The personal discomfort of one individual should not outweigh the interest of the rest of the conveners of the conference and those who look to them for leadership and guidance.
The constitution is clear about the freedom of association and the freedom of speech. In the right to speech we are reminded that we must tolerate the views of the people or groups we dislike the most.
