The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection through has provided critical support to more than 50,000 people affected by recent floods across the country.
This has been done through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs in collaboration with the Child Welfare Society of Kenya.
The initiative aims to mitigate the devastating impact of the floods.
It has seen a comprehensive response involving the distribution of essential supplies, including food, clothing and households.
The affected regions, which have faced severe infrastructure damage and displacement, are receiving ongoing assistance to ensure the well-being of vulnerable populations, particularly children and the elderly.
Labour CS Florence Bore emphasised the urgency of the situation and the need for continuous support.
“The floods have left many families in dire conditions. Our primary goal is to provide immediate relief and work towards sustainable recovery for those affected,” Bore said on Friday.
“We are grateful for the collaborative efforts with the Child Welfare Society of Kenya, which have enabled us to reach over 50,000 individuals in need," she said.
In addition to emergency supplies, the response team is also focusing on long-term recovery strategies.
These include rebuilding infrastructure, providing psychological support to trauma victims, and ensuring that children continue their education despite the disruptions caused by the flooding.
Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Joseph M Motari reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting flood victims.
“Our efforts are ongoing, and we are dedicated to ensuring that no one is left behind. The support from the Child Welfare Society of Kenya has been invaluable in our mission to restore normalcy and provide hope to the affected communities,” Motari stated.
The intervention comes at a critical time as meteorologists predict continued adverse weather conditions in some parts of the country.
The government has urged citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
As the relief efforts continue, both the State Department and the Child Welfare Society of Kenya are calling on additional partners and stakeholders to contribute to the recovery process.
The combined efforts aim to create resilient communities capable of withstanding future environmental challenges.
