Kenya Kwanza implements projects to transform Nyanza region - Owalo

He argued that President Ruto's administration is keen on the kind of projects it is undertaking Nyanza

Kenya Kwanza government is implementing development projects in Nyanza to transform the region's economy, ICT and Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo has said.

He argued that the administration of President William Ruto is keen on the kind of projects it is undertaking in the region.

The CS said they prioritize on projects that will have immediate and long-term results on the livelihoods of Nyanza residents.

On Sunday, Owalo said their intention of doing those projects as the Kenya Kwanza government is to open Nyanza for economic transformation.

“The projects the government undertakes will rejuvenate the development of the Nyanza region. Residents must be ready for such economic transformation because they are meant to improve their lives,” Owalo said.

Speaking when he attended a prayer service at Ayiengo Nomiya church at Nyamira village in Kabondo Kasipul constituency, he urged leaders to explain to residents the development activities the government is undertaking in the region.

He was accompanied by Western Region Presidential Delivery Director Sylvance Osele, Lake Basin Development Authority Managing Director Wycliffe Ochiaga, Director at Kenya Postal Corporation Rose Nyamunga and Chief Executive Officer at Kenya Medical Training College Kelly Oluoch among others.

Owalo cited projects such as Kabonyo Kanyagwal Fisheries, Aquaculture and Training Centre at a cost sh2.5billion in Kisumu.

Kenya Kwanza government is also revamping the previous fish landing beaches along Lake Victoria at Homa Bay, Mbita and Kendu Bay, and Asembo Bay.

Tarmacking of Rusinga and Mfang'ano ring roads and the 74km Mbita-Magunga-Sindo-Sori road are also ongoing in Homa Bay County.

The CS said the government is in the process of clearing unpaid debts that have bedevilled sugarcane farmers.

His ministry is building digital laboratories in all wards in the country to create employment for the youths.

“President Ruto has appointed 138 members of the Luo community in his government to help him transform the country. Let them point out those projects to show the residents that the government is working,” he said.

Owalo called on residents to give politics a break and instead focus on doing development on the grounds that it is what will improve their lives.

During the prayer service, Owalo handed over building materials such as timber, iron sheets, and nails among others worth Sh348,000 to aid the construction of the church.

He came with six masonries to build the church and promised to bring bags of cement to complete the construction.

“Let's not give a chance to political rhetoric that has deterred us from realizing the development agenda. We'll play politics when its right time comes,” the CS added.

Osele urged residents to fully embrace the Kenya Kwanza government on the grounds that it means well for the members of the Luo community through development initiatives they doing in the area.

He said President Ruto is also working closely with ODM leader Raila Odinga to ensure there peaceful coexistence among communities in Kenya.

“Ruto stood with Raila in the 2007 elections until he became Prime Minister. It is upon the Luo community to reciprocate in the 2027 elections,” Osele said.

Ochiaga said through government support they have been able to introduce new varieties of rice with high-quality produce.

The agency is also drilling boreholes to supply water for continuous agricultural activities during drought.

“The agency is emphasizing on planting of fruit trees to address issues of malnutrition. Growing of such crops is also meant to improve food security,” Ochiaga said.
