Kiamwangi ward residents in Gatundu South can now heave a sigh of relief after the Kiambu county government began upgrade of a Level 3 health facility in the area.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi said construction of the 36-bed Ng’enda Level 3 hospital will cost Sh45 million, adding that its completion will transform healthcare provision in the region.

Speaking at AIPCA Church in Kiamwangi town, the governor said the hospital will be a comprehensive medical hub comprising of an outpatient wing, inpatient facilities with a 26-bed maternity and a 10-bed general ward, a laboratory and a theatre.

“My administration has finalised the tendering of the project and construction will commence soon. We will ensure crucial services including laboratory and theatre services are brought closer to our people in this region,” the governor said.

The county chief was accompanied by MCAs Kung’u Smart (Kiamwangi), Joseph Kahura (Kiganjo), Patrick Ngaruiya (Ngecha/Tigoni) and Monica Kuguru (nominated).

Wamatangi said once complete, the hospital will not only address the healthcare gap in the area but will also ease the workload at Gatundu Level 5 Hospital which is currently facing an influx of patients.

The governor also said plans are underway to rehabilitate and upgrade Mutati health centre within the ward to better health care services provision.

While reiterating his administration’s endeavour to transform the county’s health care services, Wamatangi said supply of medical and non-medical supplies in all Kiambu health facilities will be streamlined upon completion of the county’s Central Medical Store at Ruiru Level 4 Hospital.

The governor said the region has for a long time suffered from unreliable supply of drugs and non-medical supplies blaming it on lack of a central medical store to receive and manage medical supplies as well as coordinate their distribution to health facilities across the county, monitor usage and make timely orders.

The storage facility is on the verge of completion and it will ensure reliable supplies to our health facilities, avoid low stock levels or expired drugs, ensure value for money, and ensure uninterrupted sustainable health services provision.

The MCAs hailed the project as a transformative one noting that it will relieve residents the burden of seeking services in far-flung facilities.

“We are grateful that the facility will be expanded and upgraded to bring vital services closer to our people, our mothers have been travelling to Gatundu, Thika or Ruiru hospitals to give birth but the new maternity wing will be a huge reprieve for us,” Kung’u said.

He at the same time hailed the Wamatangi-led administration for initiating other development projects in the area including the construction of model ECDE centres at Kagera and Karembu as well as construction of Mutati market.

“The governor has also promised us that rehabilitation of key roads within Kiamwangi ward will commence once the rains subside. This will ease transport and ensure our farmers take their produce to markets with ease,” Kung’u said.
