Kenya Sevens team will undergo a 10-day training camp in Miramas,  France later this month ahead of the World Sevens promotion-cum relegation playoff in Madrid in June.

Speaking Thursday,  assistant coach Louis Kisia said the team will fly to Miramas on May 20 for a 10-day training camp immediately after the final Challenger Sevens Series leg on May 18-19 in Munich.

The Miramas deal is courtesy of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya and it is part of their preparation for the Olympics.

"As Kenya Sevens, we would like to thank NOCK for allowing us to train in Miramas, which is a world-class facility. This will help us prepare adequately for the Madrid as well s the Olympics in Paris in July and August,” noted Kisia.

Shujaa have been at Kasarani for the past three weeks to hone their skills for the final leg in Munich.

Kisia said they have worked on the defence, attack, and setpiece.  "We have been working on our attack because we do not want to be dimensional, where we just give the ball to Patrick Odongo, run and score. We want to come up with some innovative ways which you will see in Munich,” he noted.

On defence, the former Strathmore Leos said: "In the last leg in Uruguay,  we were not at our best. So we have gone back to the drawing board to ensure we tighten up our defensive alignment," he said.

The tactician observed said they are working on improving the set pieces.

“We have done extensive work on our kickoff which has been one of our biggest weapons as well as improving our scrum and lineout which we believe can get better,” he revealed.

Forward Herman Humwa, who has been training with the side at Kasarani, could be the surprise selection in the final squad for Munich.

"Humwa has battled a couple of injuries and was unfit at the beginning of the campaign. He has, however, worked his socks off during training and he is likely to play in Munich,” the coach said.

The team departs on Monday next week for Germany. Shujaa are in Pool 'C' for the Munich leg, where they face Chile, Portugal and Japan.

Kenya are joint top of the standings with 36 points alongside Uruguay, with Chile third on 32 points and Germany fourth on 28.

From there, the top four teams gain promotion for the 2024-2025 World Seven Series.
