Menengai Oilers have set their sights on the National Sevens Circuit after an underwhelming campaign in the 15's season.

The Nakuru-based side, who lost in the Kenya Cup semis to rivals KCB 21-12, believe they have the talent to win the Sevens title for the second time in their history.

Speaking on Wednesday,  coach Gibson Weru said they are working on increasing their skill level and Rugby IQ ahead of the circuit starting in July.

"We have taken tentative steps towards the Sevens season. We have two and half months to work on our strength and conditioning, tactical acumen, strategy and many other things which will be vital for the Sevens season," he said.

Weru said with a good number of players featuring in the Super Series this month with the Cheetahs franchise, he has a big squad of players to choose from.

"Right now, we are working with the remaining players who have not been selected. Most of the players are young and they are relishing the challenge,” said Weru.

The Oilers finished fourth with 88 points in last season's Sevens Circuit.

The tactician believes they have learned their lessons from both that campaign and the just concluded Kenya Cup.

“There are certain aspects of our play which we were found wanting. For the next two months, we want players to focus on their core roles and be at their best to ensure we get maximum performance from them,"  the tactician noted.

Weru hopes his side will play at least one or two build tournaments ahead of the season opener. "I hope we can play several tournaments to test our systems and be in the best shape to go all out and win,” he observed.

Elsewhere, Kenya Harlequins have been handed a 28-0 walkover against Blak Blad and have qualified for the Enterprise Cup semi-finals.

The quarter-final match was abandoned after the ambulance was determined to be unequipped. This saw the match which was scheduled for the last weekend of April fail to kick off as planned.

Even though Blak Blad insisted they had everything needed for the match to kick off, a ruling by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) League Fixtures Committee handed Quins the walkover.

The other semifinal will see champions Kabras face Nondies on June 1 with the final a week later.
