Kenyan teen author Babior Newton has bagged a sweet deal with the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission of Kenya that will see his book The Betrayed Nation: Based on Kenya’s Genocide, enacted in 16 counties. The deal will see Babior, 19, who was named the Youth Peace Ambassador by the commission travel with a theater group to 16 counties that will showcase the play from his book starting March 28.

The book focuses on the bungled 2008 elections and the violence that followed it. What begins as a story of justice and prosperity turns into a baseline of mistrust and betrayal, this divides the people who have been living together in peace for years. Babior told Word Is, “In addition to this, Peace Net will also facilitate the staging of the play to most high schools in Kenya to be able to spread the peace message especially at this time when we are fast approaching another general election.”

Babior is also part of the recently launched Peace Initiative campaign by the Dedan Kimathi Peace Initiative and the Mukami Foundation. The mission of the initiative is to serve as a resource and facilitator in the promotion of peace and peace building. Of his achievements, Babior said, “I have struggled to get to this point. I don’t come from a privileged background and I’m glad that I have achieved this. I will surround myself with people who are progressive. I want to set a precedent for the young generation.”
