Nigerian singer Nneka is in town for tonight’s concert at the Tree House. This is her first stop in her East African tour that will see her also perform in Uganda, Rwanda and culminate her tour in Zanzibar at the Sauti Za Busara Festival. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Nneka who is signed to Sony said, “I’m taking charge of (distributing my music in) Africa by myself. I will invest, more time and love in Africa. And this trip to East Africa will set a foundation.”
Some regard the powerful vocalist Nneka first as an activist, and then as a musician. “I wouldn’t see myself as a political activist,” says the soul singer, “but if there were no pain in the world, I wouldn’t sing.” Nneka has also toured with Lenny Kravitz and Nas. She said, "It was a pleasure going on tour with them. I learned a lot, like humility will take you places," adding, "Lenny is an amazing human being. The advice I got was invaluable." Nneka will be joined on stage with Dan ‘Chizi’ Aceda. The concert was made possible by the Goethe-Institut, in cooperation with SparkAfrica.
