Kenyan actor Oliver Litondo has bagged a nomination in this year’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Oliver who plays the role of octogenarian Kimani Maruge in the movie First Grader has been nominated in the Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture category. The movie also nominated three times as the Outstanding Motion Picture, Outstanding Independent Motion Picture and Outstanding World Music Album.
Oliver who was named Kenya’s National Hero for his lifetime achievement in Film and Broadcasting by President Mwai Kibaki shares the category with Hollywood bigwigs. They include Eddie Murphy, Laurence Fishburne, Laz Alonso and Vin Diesel. The movie is battling for supremacy with other box office successes like Jumping the Broom, Pariah, The Help and Tower Heist.
The NAACP Image Awards celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of film, television, music and literature and honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavours. The winners of the prestigious awards will be announced during a live telecast on American channel NBC, February 17.
