An epic Kenya National Basketball League tie pitting Equity Bank Dumas against Ulinzi Warriors will be played at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium this Friday.

The match was initially slated for last week. Joseph Amoko, the Kenya Basketball Federation competition secretary also announced the rescheduling of matches rained off on Sunday.

“I have now put in the programme the Equity-Ulinzi match to be played this Friday. I am still working on the fixtures and will slot the other two later,” said Amoko

The disrupted fixtures include Nairobi City Thunder versus University of Nairobi Terrorists and Dumas versus Africa Nazarene University Wolfpacks.

Amoko added: “It’s a race against time. We are already late and the rains stopping some of the games did not help either. But we will find a way.”

Meanwhile, Hawks assistant coach Samba Mjomba is confident the bankers will be in a better place ahead of the playoffs.

The former national team guard is confident about her team’s chances as she slowly puts things together.

“I have confidence in the girls. We will be in a better place by the time we get to the playoffs,” added Mjomba.

“What we have been working on since last July is slowly coming into place. It’s a matter of polishing up.”

On Sunday, Hawks flew 54-44 past Storms in a league clash at Strathmore Sports Complex.

The bankers got off to a blast, taking the first quarter 20-9. They trailed 5-4 in the second, 12-10 in the third before taking the deciding stanza 20-18.

“The girls executed as adviced. They contained Barbra (Diana) who was Storms offensive threat in the fourth quarter,” said Mjomba.

Beryl Milungo grabbed team high 11 points while captain Melissa Akinyi and Jemimah Knight combined for 16.

Diana led Storms’ charge with 13 points. The team’s late slump in form remains coach Abel Nson’s main concern ahead of the playoffs.

In the Lower Division, national secondary school champions Butere Girls School continued to impress with a 58-32 victory over Eagle Wings.

They kept the Africa Bronze medalist at bay in three quarters with 19-4, 14-16, 17-9 and 8-2.
