Equity Bank will go top of the Kenya Handball Federation league standings if they win their two weekend games.

The bankers, third on the table with 26 points, face Buccaneers and Engineers.

“These are must-win games. We have worked on our defensive mistakes from last weekend,” said coach Equity Peter Mwathi.

“I believe in playing good defence, that’s my strength and we have to get back there urgently. We had good scores but also let in a lot.”

The men’s champions, National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) have two matches too, against Nanyuki and the University of Eldoret Pipers.

“The team is ready for the busy weekend. We’ve been working hard to meet our target of four points. We know it’s not going to be easy matches but the boys are ready to pick up from where we left last Sunday,” said millers’ coach Bryan Mathews.

“Every match is a must-win and we’re treating each match as a final whenever we step on in the court.”

He decried numerous chances missed in the first half of their match against Strathmore. He, however, hailed goalkeeper Ian Odhiambo, whose heroics kept them in the game.

National Youth Service face rampant Ulinzi Sharks and Kenyatta University.

“I have confidence in the team. They have gradually adapted to our system. The approach towards matches will vary since they play a completely different brand of handball,” noted NYS coach Anthony Naburuck.

Buccaneers top scorer Randy Ochieng said they are ready to challenge for maximum points against Equity Bank and KU.
