Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has announced that the Kenya Defense Forces will commence parade formations on Monday next week in preparation for the Madaraka Day fete to be held in Bungoma.

Speaking at the Bungoma county commissioners' offices on Thursday, Omollo stated that the military will operate from the Nzoia Sugar Company premises (Sudi stadium), with all necessary security arrangements in place to assess progress and identify any gaps.

"We shall continue planning and re-planning as we assess the gaps," PS Omollo emphasized.

Omollo outlined this year’s Madaraka Day theme as "Focusing on Food Security," affirming that the Department of Agriculture and Livestock Development, in collaboration with the Bungoma county government, will showcase the country’s achievements in food security and agriculture.

"As part of the Madaraka Day celebrations, we will host a week-long agricultural event at Kibabii University, featuring participants from Bungoma, neighbouring counties, and across the nation," the PS stated.

He urged all Kenyans to attend the agricultural event leading up to the Madaraka Day celebrations.

During his assessment tour in Bungoma, the PS inspected ongoing projects including the rehabilitation of Matulo airstrip, construction of the state lodge, and the Masinde Muliro Stadium, commending progress made in ensuring readiness.

"We still have work to do before the deadline on the 15th of this month," he added.

Omollo also highlighted the ongoing rehabilitation of feeder roads by both Kenya Urabn Roads Authority and Kenya Rural Roads Authority, urging the public to exercise caution during the rainy season when crossing rivers and bridges.

"We urge the public to remain cautious and heed guidance when crossing rivers, roads, and bridges," he emphasized.

He called on teachers, police, and elected leaders to support and guide the public to prevent avoidable loss of lives.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka assured readiness to host this year’s Madaraka Day celebration.

"I appeal to residents, especially our youth, to support ongoing works at the stadium and Matulo airstrip," Lusaka said.

He warned of potential mudslides in the Mt Elgon region and called for caution to prevent casualties.
