Ambassadorial nominee Kemosi declines Ghana envoy job

Former West Mugirango MP Vincent Mogaka Kemosi has declined his nomination as the country’s High Representative to Accra, Ghana.

The ex-lawmaker was among the nominated ambassadors by President William Ruto in the recent appointments that are now being considered by Parliament.

On Tuesday, Kemosi wrote to the Committee saying he will not appear for the approval hearing as he has declined the nomination.

The former lawmaker was among the nominees that were to be vetted by the National Assembly’s Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations on Tuesday.

In the letter read by Committee chairman Nelson Koech, Kemosi said his shock decision is informed of compelling personal and family matters.

“I wish to inform you that I will not appear before the said Committee at the time and the venue specified for a formal hearing,” the letter reads.

“This has been occasioned by my personal and compelling family matters which after taking into consideration do not allow me to take up the position as the High Commissioner to Ghana as nominated by President on March 9, 2024.”

“Therefore to save the precious time of this important Parliamentary business and as per the provision of the Act aforementioned kindly note and this letter serves as notice not to appear.”

“I thank you for your invitation.”

The development therefore means President William Ruto will nominate another person for the Accra job.

The Committee was forced to adjourn the morning session and will resume sitting in the afternoon.

“In brief, he has declined his nomination as our ambassador nominee to Accra, Ghana,” Koech who is also the Belgut MP said as he adjourned the session.

In the afternoon, the Committee will consider the nomination of Abdi Aden Korio (Muscat, Oman) and Gertrude Angote (UMEP, Nairobi).

Aden Mohamed Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and Kenneth Mulimo Nganga (Abu Dhabi, UAE) appeared before the vetting panel in the morning.
